Hi there. I’m a product designer (if one were to identify oneself with professional titles) . With 8+ years of experiences, I help teams navigate complex problem space and seek simple, intuitive solutions using empathetic practice.
I’ve worked on a diverse range of projects, most recently expanding my knowledge in controlled environment agriculture at Bowery Farming. Previously, I’ve worked in music industry for over 5 years, from designing streaming experiences at SiriusXM to rights management for Songtrust. I’m most interested in projects that have a positive impact to our surroundings.
Empathy, curiosity and intentionality form the foundation of my practice. I believe design is working through others, and with others, it converts utility into behavior. (“The role of Design is to produce embodiments of solutions that maximize function and augment human experience; it ‘converts’ utility into behavior.” - Age of entanglement ) And designers serve as medium between behavior ( humane ) and utility (technical). To solve a problem entails looking beyond the problem, truly empathizing with people who would be using the design, remaining open and curious in the problem space, and approaching every aspect with care and intentionality.
I’ve also learned a lot from David Graeber’s idea that ‘consensus isn’t just about agreement, it’s about changing things around: You get a proposal, you work something out, people foresee problems, you do creative synthesis. At the end of it you come up with something that everyone thinks is okay. Most people like it, and nobody hates it’ It resonated deeply with me after years of leading design workshops and various versions of design sprints - good design comes from working creatively and collaboratively with others.
I trained as an engineer, which had a lasting impact on how I approach design, and design thinking. I’m an avid reader. I also paint (see my non-work here).
